Community Development Department Functions:
Planning and Zoning - A key role of the department is
maintaining the Spalding County Comprehensive Plan, an inventory used
for planning over an extended period. Additionally, the department
staffs the Spalding County Planning Commission and the County's Board
of Appeals for zoning related matters.
The department also maintains the County's Official Zoning Map, making
changes as approved by the Board of Commissioners. The department also
handles applications to rezone property as well as certificates of
zoning compliance.
Building Inspections - A traditional role of the department has
been to handle Spalding County's building inspections program. A
Building Official and a Building Inspector manage these inspections.
Spalding County requires inspections for: footings (or a
dual-inspection for rough plumbing and slab construction); framing,
electrical, plumbing, and HVAC; and a final inspection.
Geographic Information Systems - The Spalding County GIS
program supports community development efforts through site analysis
and other spatial mapping, in addition to providing occasional support
for other growth management initiatives.
Community Services Block Grant - Spalding County is a long-time
participant in the CSBG program. Funded by the federal government in
cooperation with the Georgia Department of Human Resources, CSBG
offers essential human services to the Spalding County community.
