Commissioner Raymond T Ray Jr.

Raymond Ray is a native of Griffin where he attended the Griffin-Spalding School System and graduated from Griffin High School in 1976. He attended North Georgia College, where he graduated in 1980. Upon graduation from North Georgia College, Raymond was commissioned as an active duty officer in the United States Army Engineer Corps where he served on numerous assignments overseas and in the continental United States until his retirement. He left active duty in 1991 and joined the United States Reserves at which time he returned to Griffin. Raymond worked in Real Estate until recalled to active duty for Desert Storm. After his temporary duty, Raymond worked as a Federal Civil Servant until 1996 when he again returned to Griffin as General Manager for Dan J Smith Distributors, Inc. Raymond works for PetroSouth Inc as a Territory Manager.

Raymond holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from North Georgia College. While serving on active duty, he worked toward his Masters Degree in Business with Embry Riddle Aeronautical College. Additionally, he has earned many course completion and training certificates from the United States Army which include financial, administration, logistics management as well Combined Arms Staff College. He has served as a member and Chairperson of the Griffin-Spalding Board of Education, Second District Seat from 2000-2008, member and Chairperson of the Griffin-Spalding Educational Foundation and the Griffin-Spalding Partners in Education since 2000. Raymond is a member of the Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce (1999-present). Raymond is a current member and past president of the Griffin Daybreak Rotary Club 2008-2009 where he received the Rotary District 6900 Sheffield Leadership Award.

Raymond is married to the former Edith Dallas of Griffin, Georgia. Raymond and Edith have five children between them; Megan Burton, Amanda Warren, Toby Ray, Taylor Ray and Laurel Goins with three grand children, Mykala & Easton Burton and Ansley Ray.

Raymond is the son of Grace and Raymond T Ray Sr. Raymond has two older sisters, Gail Dean; & Ginger Smith and a twin brother, Waymond.
