The Spalding County Correctional Institute was recognized for the third year in a row as having the highest number of inmate program completions in the entire state at the Georgia Department of Corrections annual Counselor Supervisor’s Training in Macon Georgia on May 22nd and 23rd.
The Inmate Services Division of GDC presented Chief Counselor Happy Johnson with the award and noted that Spalding County C.I. far surpassed their goal of 600 program completions of classes. Inmates at Spalding County C.I. are required to complete classes in Motivation For Change, Problem Solving Skills, Relapse Prevention and several others in order to meet mandates by the Department of Corrections and the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. In addition, many inmates are mandated to obtain their GED’s or show that they are working towards completion before they are assigned a possible parole date. In fiscal year 2019, 20 inmates successfully obtained their diplomas with several more projected to finish up before July, 2019.
