Another 2016 SPLOST Project Underway: FRESH PAVEMENT COMING TO MUCH NEEDED ROADS IN SPALDING COUNTY

March 1st, 2017

Plans are underway to resurface approximately 15 miles of Spalding County roads beginning early next week. This county-wide road improvement project is funded by the six-year Special Purpose Option Local Sales Tax (SPLOST) and additional funding received from the state. “We are very aware of the importance of properly maintaining our county road network,” said William Wilson, County Manager. “It is a key factor in providing a good quality of life for our residents, visitors, educational institutions and is an integral part of attracting and maintaining local business commerce.”

The roads chosen for resurfacing were based on the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating System (PASER). The PASER scale is an allinclusive numerical rating system for road pavement condition initially developed by the University of Wisconsin that uses a visual inspection to evaluate pavement surface conditions. The numerical PASER ratings are translatable to condition categories and prescribed treatment options.

The roads making up the 15 miles of resurfacing are:

Bleachery Street: Beginning at Railroad Ave and Ending at North 9th St. (0.59 miles)
East McIntosh: Beginning at North Hill St. and Ending at North 2nd St. (1.75 miles)
County Line Rd: Beginning at S. Sixth St. and Ending at Old Macon Rd. (2.1 miles)
Moreland Road: Beginning at Lakeside Rd. and Ending at Carver Rd. (1.09 miles)
Moreland Road: Beginning at Carver and Ending at Hwy 19/41 (0.7 miles)
Parker Road: Beginning at West Ellis Rd and Ending at Moon Rd (0.4 miles)
Farr Road: Beginning at Parker Rd. and Ending at Dead End (0.2 miles)
High Falls Road: Beginning at N. McDonough Rd. and Ending at Hwy 16 (1.44 miles)
Teamon Road: Beginning at Jordan Hill Rd. and Ending at Hwy 155 (3.87 miles)
Dutchman Rd: Beginning at N. Walkers Mill Rd. and Ending N. McDonough (1.2 miles)
Vaughn Road: Beginning at W. Ellis Rd. and Ending at Hwy 92 (2.86 miles) Harris Street: Beginning at West Ellis Rd. and Dead End (0.56 miles)

Resurfacing projects are scheduled to begin next week and should last 30-45 days, weather permitting. “Spalding County will make every effort to notify motorist in advance of upcoming road projects, and ensure that required public safety presence and/or detours are in place to cause the least disruption possible to our local residents”, said Wilson.
