Starting on Monday, December 18th, through Thursday, December 21st, the Probate Court office will be open continuously from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Friday, December 22nd, the office will close at noon and will remain closed until it reopens on Wednesday, December 27th at 8:00 a.m

This office cannot provide direction or guidance on the ramifications of the “Constitutional Carry” legislation which is now in effect other than to note that this legislation did not affect the issuance of Weapons Carry Licenses.

Applications for Weapons Carry License and Marriage License are by APPOINTMENT ONLY. 

TO APPLY FOR A GEORGIA WEAPONS CARRY AND MARRIAGE LICENSE

2. Complete the application
3. Click submit and receive a confirmation number
4. Call Probate Court (770-467-4341) to set-up an appointment to come in and complete the application process.

Upon completing the application online you will be given a confirmation number. Please call us at 770.467.4341 with that confirmation number to make an appointment.

FOR MARRIAGE APPLICANTS WE ASK THAT ONLY THE COUPLE WHO IS APPLYING FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE COME TO THE SECOND FLOOR AT YOUR APPOINTED TIME.

ALL PROBATE MATTERS WILL BE FILED BY MAIL OR THROUGH OUR DROP BOX THAT IS IN THE LOBBY OF THE COURTHOUSE.

Georgia Probate Courts exercise exclusive, original jurisdiction in the probate of wills, administration of estates, appointment of guardians (minor and adult) and involuntary hospitalization of incapacitated adults and other individuals.

All probate court judges administer oaths of office, issue marriage and firearms licenses; some process United States Passports applications. They may hold habeas corpus hearings or preside over criminal preliminary hearings. Unless a jury trial is requested, probate court judges may also hear certain misdemeanors, traffic cases and violations of state game and fish laws in counties where there is no state court.

All of Georgia’s Standard Probate forms are available from the Probate Court.  They can also be downloaded at gaprobate.gov along with the Handbook for Guardians and Conservators of Minors and Adults.  Videos for Adult and Minor guardianships and conservatorships can also be viewed on the website.
