EAST MCINTOSH ROAD STRUCTURE FIRE

July 31st, 2017

On Saturday, July 29 2017, at 9:59 am, the Spalding County Fire Department, along with members of the Spalding County Sheriff’s Department and EMS, responded to a report of a structure fire at 408 East McIntosh Road with multiple victims trapped inside. Upon arrival on scene, personnel from Spalding County Engine 3 observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence.

During search and rescue efforts, two victims a six year old male and a 44 year old female were discovered. Due to the presence of flames throughout the residence both victims had to be removed through a window in the back of the structure and CPR was administered immediately. The 44 year old female victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The six year old male victim was transported to the Augusta Burn Center where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Once the fire was under control and the scene secured, Spalding County Fire Marshal, Harold Williams and State Fire Marshal, Mickey Hunt began their investigation and were able to determine the fire originated in the kitchen area, from a cigarette that had been discarded in a trash can.

Spalding County Fire Department personnel remained on scene while salvage and overhaul operations were performed and to assist with the ongoing investigation.
