The NRA Foundation has awarded Spalding County 4-H Project S.A.F.E. (Shooting Awareness, Fun & Education) a grant totaling $1769.25 to fund supplies for the Spalding County 4-H Shotgun Club. “We are very excited about the Spalding County 4-H Shotgun Club, “said Wade Hutcheson, Spalding County Agent, “and pleased that the NRA is making an investment in our community.”
GA 4-H Project SAFE is an extremely popular program that teaches valuable life skills through participation in team target events. Project S.A.F.E. (Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education) is an active program designed to assist young people in personal development. The program promotes responsibility, decision making and identifying realistic, personal goals. Core concepts stress safety, ethical development, personal responsibility, and life-time recreational skills. Safety is our highest priority. The program promotes positive interaction between young people and concerned, interested and wellprepared adults with shared interests.
Project SAFE 4-H Clubs take place in over 110 counties within the state. Spalding County 4-H Project SAFE provides shooting sports in the areas of: Air Pistol, Air Rifle, BB Gun, Rimfire Sporter, Smallbore, and Shotgun. The shotgun club practices locally at the Griffin Gun Club Range. All other shooting sports practice at the Ole Mille Range Complex located in Griffin, Georgia. Clubs are led by certified coaches and screened volunteer leaders. Project SAFE provides youth a place where they can develop a sense of belonging, learn teamwork in a safe environment and increase concentration skills. Clubs sign-ups for Spalding County 4-H Project SAFE are held each fall.
