SPALDING COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT OFFERS WEATHER RADIOS AND ACCESSORIES FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED THROUGH FUNDING FROM THE 2016 CHESNEY FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS MEMORIAL GRANT

September 7th, 2016

The Spalding County Fire Department has been awarded a grant that will extend the access of our current weather radio programming. The funding will provide for the purchase of weather radios and strobes that can be attached to the weather radios to alert residents that may be hearing impaired. The strobe offers an additional capacity for alerting residents who may be hearing impaired of an impending notification.

Spalding County Fire Chief Kenny West has expressed his appreciation to the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation for the grant award and stated, “Having the opportunity to provide weather radios with special strobes to those in our community who otherwise would be unaware of the danger, provides us with another avenue to assist these individuals in being prepared for emergencies that may affect our community.”

The value of early notification is the essence of being prepared for emergencies and disasters. The Spalding County Fire Department appreciates the funding received from the 2016 Chesney Fallen Firefighters Memorial Grant as it enables us to offer weather radios to a section of the community that has not been addressed and will assist those citizens in being prepared for emergencies and disasters.

In order to receive a weather radio and strobe assembly, you must adhere to the following requirements:

  • Call or visit the Spalding County Fire Department at 770-228-2129 or visit the office located at 1005 Memorial Drive.
  • Provide a photo ID or some other form of identification.
  • Provide proof of residency (for example a utility bill, credit card bill, etc.).
