SPALDING COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT RELEASES INFORMATION ON KENNEDY DRIVE STRUCTURE FIRE FATALITY

April 14th, 2016

On April 13, 2016, at 11:05 p.m., the Spalding County Fire Department, members of the Spalding County Sheriff’s Department and EMS responded to report of a structure fire at 1511 Kennedy Drive with a person possibly trapped inside. Upon arrival on scene, fire units observed the structure fully involved on one side with the fire rapidly spreading. Fire units entered the structure in an attempt to suppress the fire. Contact was also made with the neighboring residents who were evacuated for their safety.

At approximately 12:55 a.m., search teams recovered the body of a 37 year old female in the master bathroom of the structure. Once the scene was cleared by Spalding County Fire Marshal Harold Williams and State Fire Marshal Mickey Hunt, the Spalding County Coroner and members of the Spalding County Sheriff’s Department began their investigation.

According to Fire Marshal Williams, the origin of the fire appeared to have been the master bedroom at the rear of the structure. Once the initial investigation was complete, the victim’s body was sent to the GBI crime lab for further analysis.

During the incident one member of the Spalding County Fire Department was transported to Spalding Regional Hospital. At this time no names are being released, as the investigation is still ongoing and members of the victim’s family have yet to be notified.
