On October 16, 2019 The Georgia Recreation and Park Association hosted its annual District Four Awards Banquet in Heard County, GA. At this ceremony Spalding County Parks and Leisure Services received multiple awards including Class “A” Agency of the Year.

Spalding County Parks and Leisure Services received the Class “A” Outstanding Project Award for the Fairmont Park and Community Center SPLOST Project. The project featured a complete remodel of the center, wood flooring and HVAC for the gymnasium, creation of a Success Center computer lab courtesy of the EMC Roundup Foundation, the addition of a library and gaming center and completely remodeled restrooms. The park received a new pavilion, new parking lot, all new play structures, including all abilities elements and a Spiderweb climbing feature.

Multiple Spalding County staff were recognized for their outstanding work and dedication to the field of Parks and Leisure Services.

Lauren Brown received the “Jo Ellis” Programming Network Professional Award for her outstanding work as Senior Center Supervisor. Since she has been in this position, Senior Center membership have grown 80%.

Greg Thaxton, Parks Maintenance Supervisor received the Parks/Maintenance Network Professional Award for his work throughout the parks system including the development of the Disc Golf Courses within Spalding County.

Felicia Camp, Parks and Public Grounds Administrative Assistant, received the Outstanding Administrative Support Staff for her exceptional work within the Parks Department and active involvement within GRPA.

John Dennis, Parks Maintenance Detail Officer, received the Outstanding Parks Maintenance Award for 30 years of dedicated and flexible service within a growing department. He has trained nearly everyone in the Department.

James “Sonny” Walker, Recreation Leader, received the Outstanding Programmers Support Award for his more than 24 years of dedicated service within youth and adult recreation programs.
