SPALDING COUNTY PARKS PUBLIC GROUNDS AND LEISURE SERVICES DEPARTMENT RECOGNIZES JASON STOWELL

November 24th, 2015

Jason Stowell of the Spalding County Parks, Public Grounds and Leisure Services Department was named State Volunteer of the year by the Georgia Recreation and Park Association!

The Georgia Recreation and Park Association State Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes volunteers whose efforts have had a lasting, positive effect on parks, recreation and leisure services. Jason was recognized for his dedicated service to the community and to the Spalding County Parks, Public Grounds and Leisure Services Department through his involvement in the construction of the disc golf course at Wyomia Tyus Olympic Park.

Jason Stowell, a local businessman, artist and avid disc golf player gathered with friends, on a weekly basis, to play disc golf. He organized a group from Spalding County that traveled out of town to participate in the sport. The success of those weekly trips led Mr. Stowell and Kyle Woodall to form the Griffin Disc Golf Association.

In 2013, Mr. Stowell volunteered to raise funds to purchase materials to build a disc golf course in Spalding County. Mr. Stowell utilized his CAD and marketing skills to develop a scaled drawing of the course, a business plan, a marketing plan, a sponsorship plan and a budget for course construction.

The direct result of Jason’s efforts is that residents are now able to experience and enjoy a local disc golf course!
