YOUR 2015 SPLOST DOLLARS AT WORK: SPALDING COUNTY ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF 800 MHZ RADIO TOWER RELOCATION PROJECT

February 13th, 2017

Spalding County is proud to announce the completion of the 800 MHz Radio Tower Relocation Project. This Project was made possible through the 2015 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).

In the Summer of 2016, the Spalding County Board of Commissioners selected a local company, Louden Communications, in conjunction with Midland Towers to construct and relocate equipment from a tower leased from Crown Castle to a new site located at the corner of North Walkers Mill and Jackson Rd directly behind the Cabin Fire Station. The project took nearly six months to complete with crews finalizing the move last week.

The relocation of this equipment is a big move for Spalding County, in that it provides better coverage in area as well as giving us the ability to provide coverage along Interstate 75. In addition to the extended coverage, Spalding County will save approximately $100,000 per year previously paid to Crown Castle for rental space on their tower.

“We are very excited about this move”, said William Wilson, County Manager. “The new tower will free the County from paying rent and will give us the opportunity to invest the money where it can benefit the tax payers of this county.” At the current time, Spalding County owns three of the five towers needed to operate the 800 MHz Radio System which was purchased as part of the 2008 SPLOST. Planning is underway to acquire additional property and to continue the trend of owning the infrastructure necessary to run the 800 MHz system for years to come.
